“I wanted education to be more than it currently was.

I want education to be friendly, exciting and stimulating. I want students to experience learning without the stresses that tests and formal assessments entail, but to associate learning with positive mindsets.

I want students to continue to bridge the gap in preschool to formal learning, and from formal learning to tertiary learning so students can be enabled and skilled to complete the tasks at hand.

At Heuristica, all of my desires are fulfilled.

It’s the dream come true.”

– Corné Pretorius (Founder)

Heuristica is a tutor centre at which home-schooling students are supported in their studies with a private tuition, starting from Stage 0 at 6 years, building up to the final levels of IGCSE, AS and A levels of Cambridge.

The Objectives of Heuristica

  • To provide education to above-average learners who suffer restricted learning growth in mainstream education
  • To produce learners who are independent thinkers who are articulate, well mannered, educated in the widest sense of the word, and enlightened in Christian morals and culture
  • To offer a proper English education
  • To create a learning experience for students to pace through stage levels according to their own abilities and skills
  • To supply children with an education in a social environment where a tutor educates a small group
  • To make use of a pragmatic learning approach, where it utilises both internal and external facilities (when available) to enrich the learning approach
  • To encourage parents to pursue the abilities and skills of the learners, and participate in the education of their child as a lifestyle
  • To employ educators who are willing, enthusiastic, open minded and encourage pragmatic learning as is the culture of Heuristica
  • To deviate from mainstream educational systems within the practice of education

Philosophy of Heuristica

The objectives of Heuristica is founded upon the following philosophy:

Heuristica’s value and worth is dedicated to God, and the practice of Biblical instructions.

We believe in the worth, dignity and unique character of the individual.

We believe children should gain knowledge through a learning an experience.

We believe that learning experiences should not be confined and restricted to the classroom or by the educator.

We strive to minimise the stresses associated with education.

We strive to provide quality, disciplined, intellectual education and training and to encourage learning growth limited only by the ability of the student.

We strive to create an environment of tolerance and understanding, to ensure that all feel accepted, safe and happy.

We believe that the tutors of Heuristica should be proficient in the teaching of their subjects, dedicated to the wellbeing of the students, and committed and loyal to the profession. To this end, we believe in the recruitment, motivation and retention of staff who fulfil these criteria.

We believe in the upholding of traditional values that include good manners, fair play, high moral standards, integrity and kindness (Christian Culture)

We believe that successful education is a partnership between the home and Heuristica. An atmosphere of openness, mutual trust and respect must exist amongst parents, students and staff.
